Letters | A NEW POPE IS ELECTED TO LEAD THE CHURCH

US government could learn a thing or two from Vatican conclave

Smaller and simpler than our federal government, the Vatican conclave worked. Perhaps we might incorporate some of their incentives to make our government more functional.

Whenever a decision on a bill cannot be reached after three days, the House and Senate retire for a day of prayer, then meet to try again.

If there is still no agreement, members go on a diet of one meal a day. If the impasse drags on further, it’s bread and water only, until they become able to function effectively.
