Letters | Thank you, Mr. Mayor

Menino would have been in it for the long haul

There are many things to like about Tom Menino, but for me one thing stands out above all the rest. He just wanted to be the mayor of Boston. He didn’t want to be the governor, congressman, or senator; he just wanted to be mayor.

He was willing to do the job for 20 years and, except for his health issues, I suspect even longer. It’s comforting to know that you have a mayor who loves his city and is in it for the long haul.

I doubt very much that we’ll be able to say the same for our next mayor, but I will hold out hope.
