Re “Residents divided on casino at track” (Page A1, April 1): The only city residents who should have standing in any upcoming vote pertaining to a casino’s coming to Suffolk Downs should be residents of East Boston.
Our community is separated from Boston proper in many ways, not the least of which is geography. We are home to much of the infrastructure that drives the region’s economy and must absorb all types of impacts from that very infrastructure. It is only fair, therefore, that residents on this side of the tunnel should be the ones to determine our own destiny.
Perhaps if the Globe’s polling apparatus had taken the time to find enough “East Boston residents to create a statistically significant sample,” the story would have given a more balanced reading of the pulse of residents regarding the casino issue.
