Responding with vengeance only stirs cycle of violence

As a Boston Marathon finisher who saw the bombs go off, I condemn that violence without question. But as a Christian, I am appalled by the people who demonstrated against burying suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev’s body.

When the bodies of US soldiers were dragged through the streets in Mogadishu after hundreds of civilians were killed, we called those Somalis barbarians. The decision by Graham Putnam & Mahoney Funeral Parlors to prepare Tsarnaev’s body is what civilized people do.

Violence will never end unless we take the high road and refuse to respond to it with vengeance, hatred, and more violence.
