Bruins fans showed poor taste by draping statue with jersey

David L. Ryan/Globe Staff

PUTTING A Bruins jersey on George Washington was an outrageous offense to the noble sanctity of Boston’s monument to the father of our country — and a demonstration of the juvenile mentality prevalent in our society today (“Ice dream surprise,” Metro, June 19). It clearly highlights the shocking level of brainless idiocy associated with sports fanaticism in our once truly strong and justifiably proud city of Boston.

The level of disrespect and dishonor this shows to every American from every generation in our entire country is beyond measure.
