Patriots must explain decision to sign Hernandez

THE PATRIOTS knew Aaron Hernandez was a violent, trouble youth with low self-esteem when they signed him to a multi-million dollar contract. The Patriots knew Hernandez’s inner circle continued to be sordid characters from his past, and not teammates or new people in his life, when they signed him to a multimillion-dollar extension last year.

Why didn’t the Patriots take all reasonable steps to ensure that Hernandez had the best chance to succeed? If doing so wasn’t “simply the right thing to do,” it is certainly the prudent thing to do to protect such an investment, as well as the community at large.
