Town rules need to be enforced

Jennifer Graham’s Sept. 9 op-ed “Let there be night” sheds light on the perplexing problem of too much artificial lighting, much of which is poorly designed. An additional problem I have encountered is a reluctance by town officials to enforce existing light ordinances.

Without enforcement, offenders feel secure in ignoring lighting regulations, assuming they even know of their existence.

Light pollution is not trivial or simply a matter of aesthetics. It is unhealthy and a waste of energy.
