RE “SOUTH Station may be on track for a new name” (Metro, Jan. 31):

Renaming South Station after Governor Michael S. Dukakis?

Would New York City rename Grand Central Terminal after Jacqueline Onassis, who saved that beautiful building from the wrecking ball? Of course not.

There are other ways of honoring the Duke for his support of public transportation, like a plaque inside or a statue outside.

Losing the name “South Station” would be losing part of Boston’s historic identity.
