Dan Shaughnessy’s column on the University of Connecticut women’s basketball dominance and their margins of victory was of little interest to me. I watch them because of their brilliant, unselfish team play.
Shaughnessy could write a more interesting column about what is likely a once-in-a-lifetime team. For example, why are they so dominant? Is it the three seniors, Breanna Stewart, Moriah Jefferson, and Morgan Tuck, or is it Geno Auriemma’s coaching, or both?
Shaughnessy could write about UConn’s place in history relative to other team dynasties or about how he rates Auriemma against other great basketball coaches, such as Phil Jackson, John Wooden, Red Auerbach, and Gregg Popovich.
Columns like these would spark a lot of discussion among sports fans.
