As a parent of a college student who is transgender, I attended the LGBT Executive Networking Night, held my sign asking for support of the Transgender Public Accommodations bill, and wore green in solidarity.
Here is what I learned from the governor’s speech.
His concern for his son, who was prescribed opiates for an injury, motivated him to take a tremendous lead on the issue of stemming opioid addiction.
His esteem for his brother, who is gay, factored in his signing an executive order launching the first-in-the-nation certification for LGBT business owners under the Supplier Diversity Program.
Am I to conclude that the odds of gaining the governor’s support for gender identity protections will take a great leap forward if and when a member of the Baker family comes out as transgender?
