As with pot, it’s time sports gambling was legal — and regulated

Sports gambling (“The future: a wager on every play”) has never been well controlled. Sports scores have driven the numbers racket for decades. The recent history of gambling, as with that of marijuana, involves moving it from the underground economy to a regulated, taxable economy.

We can’t stop people from gambling on sports, even when it’s slanted so that a few data-savvy players overwhelmingly sweep up the winnings. So let’s tax the gambling heavily and put some of the proceeds toward treatment for gambling addictions.
