There are a number of senators who could tilt Kavanaugh’s nomination

I hope Senator Susan Collins takes your advice and pulls her support of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh (“Collins, key vote in Senate, should reject Kavanaugh,” Editorial, Sept. 11). The Maine Republican and Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska have been the focus, as if Kavanaugh’s appointment is solely in the hands of the two women Republicans. What about the male anti-Trump Republicans? Now that there is a serious question about Kavanaugh’s veracity, where are Senators Bob Corker and Jeff Flake? Neither has anything to lose, especially since they are both leaving office. And if Kavanaugh did indeed lie under oath, it would also give Senator Ben Sasse adequate cover to turn his ineffectual complaints into action. That goes for a few wishy-washy red state Democrats, such as Joe Manchin and Heidi Heitkamp, as well.

And one more thing: Please stop using phrases such as “It’s what Americans voted for.” The more than 71 million voters who did not vote for Donald Trump find it offensive and misleading.
