It shouldn’t take a disaster to draw focus to National Grid lockout

The gas explosions that affected thousands of residents in the Merrimack Valley illustrate what can happen when you play Russian roulette with public safety (“Disaster puts spotlight on National Grid lockout,” Page A1, Sept. 19). Our state clearly needs as many experienced steelworkers as possible. For three months, the Baker administration has been silent both on National Grid’s lockout of 1,250 experienced steelworkers and on the safety complaints made about their replacement workers. This makes me wonder where Governor Baker’s priorities lie — with corporate profits, or with the safety of his constituents?
