Boston should follow Montreal’s last call

Once again, as the Encore Boston Harbor casino gets ready to open, the subject of when we should have last call in Boston is back in the news (“Walsh should push for later last call beyond Encore,” Opinion, May 14). The casino, of course, wants a 4 a.m. last call, while Boston bars and nightclubs have always seen the lights go on at 2. The answer? Look to our neighbors to the north. In Montreal, a great city for late-night fun, they shut it down at 3 a.m., and it’s a perfect time to close. This gives everyone time to get some late-night food, sober up, and get to bed before the sun comes up. 4 a.m.? It’s too late. 2 a.m.? Too early. 3 a.m.? Parfait!
