2012 Baseball All-Scholastics

Meet the standout performers who earned All-Scholastic honors for their work this spring:

Players of the Year:

Casey DeAndrade, East Bridgewater, Senior

DeAndrade was selected South Shore League MVP after batting .484 with 25 RBIs and 14 stolen bases and pitching 43 2/3 innings with 59 strikeouts and a 1.44 ERA. The vice president of the school’s National Honor Society, he will attend New Hampshire on a football scholarship.

Jason Harper, Northeast, Senior

The Commonwealth lower division MVP went 9-1 with a 1.04 ERA and 112 strikeouts and batted .345 for the Golden Knights. He was a four-year all-star and plans on attending Franklin Pierce in the fall after playing AAU Senior Babe Ruth this summer.

Matt Tulley, Lowell, Senior

Tulley won his third straight Merrimack Valley Conference player of the year award this season after going 7-1 with a 1.46 ERA and 90 strikeouts in 59 innings. He also batted .306 and led the team with 20 RBIs. He will be attending Virginia Tech next year.

Brandon Walsh, North Andover, Senior


Walsh was named the Cape Ann League Division 1 MVP for the second consecutive year after batting .490 with 4 homers and 20 RBIs and going 6-3 with a 2.10 ERA and 91 strikeouts. He was also a football All-Scholastic in his junior and senior years and will attend UMass.


Brandon Bingel, St. John’s Prep, Junior

The junior pitcher/shortstop for the Eagles was named Catholic Conference MVP after batting .418 with 5 homers and 25 RBIs and going 5-2 with 3 saves, a 1.10 ERA, and 44 strikeouts. He is a member of the National Honor Society and has committed to play baseball at Bryant University.

Pat Delano, Braintree, Senior

The 6-foot-7-inch righthander was named the MVP of the Bay State Carey Division, turning in a 1.21 ERA with 50 strikeouts in 57 innings while batting .292 with four home runs. He was drafted by the Red Sox in the 35th round of the draft in June and plans to attend Vanderbilt.

Kyle Gauthier, Lynn Classical, Senior

The Northeast Conference all-star went 8-2 with a 1.55 ERA and 70 strikeouts and also batted .420 with 15 RBIs. With a 4.28 GPA, Gauthier is in the top 5 percent of his class and will be playing baseball and studying physical therapy next year at the University of Hartford.

Sam Jordan Dover-Sherborn, Senior

The senior was named the Tri-Valley League MVP after batting .541 with 9 doubles, 3 home runs, 19 RBIs and 20 runs. On the mound the southpaw went 7-2 with a 1.42 ERA, 51 strikeouts, and 11 walks in 44 1/3 innings. He will be attending Trinity College next year to play baseball.

Kevin Kwedor, Marshfield, Senior


The senior lefthander went 8-1 with a 1.53 ERA for the Rams and was named to the South team for the EMass All-Star Game. He finished his career with 14 wins for Marshfield and next year will be attending Southern New Hampshire University.

Sean O’Neill, Norwood, Senior

The Bay State Herget MVP was clutch in the postseason, going 9 for 14 in three tournament games. In the regular season he batted .416 with 24 RBIs and 22 runs and had a 1.40 ERA. The honor roll student will attend Merrimack College next year.

Pat Ruotolo, Peabody, Junior

The junior righthander tossed three no-hitters for the Tanners, including back-to-back efforts against Swampscott (May 7) and Salem (May 16). He was named the Northeast Conference MVP and finished the year 8-1 with 130 strikeouts.

Chris Shaw, Lexington, Senior

The Middlesex League MVP batted .475 with 7 home runs and 27 RBIs and went 5-0 on the mound with 95 strikeouts. He was drafted by the New York Mets in the 26th round of the June draft and plans to attend Boston College to play baseball.

Brandon Shileikis, Dighton-Rehoboth, Junior

The junior pitcher and center fielder went 9-1 for the Falcons, improving his career record to 23-6, with 74 strikeouts and a 1.75 ERA and also batted .427 with 28 RBIs. This summer he will play for the In the Zone Thunder 17U prospect team.

Scott Tully, Reading, Junior


The junior southpaw is a three-time Middlesex League all-star and went 8-1 with a 0.82 ERA, a school-record 114 strikeouts, and four saves this season. He tossed a no-hitter against Arlington and holds the school career mark with 290 strikeouts. He has a verbal commitment to attend Notre Dame.

Joe Walsh, Taunton, Senior

Walsh was co-MVP of the Old Colony League after batting .447 with 3 homers and 31 RBIs. He also scored 23 runs and had a .562 on-base percentage. A National Honor Society and school council member, he is committed to play baseball at Eckerd College.

Rhett Wiseman, BB&N, Senior

The 2012 Gatorade Massachusetts Baseball Player of the Year and ISL MVP batted .444 with 8 home runs, 24 RBIs, and 26 runs for the Knights. A First Team Rawlings/Perfect Game All-American, Wiseman, who also plays outfield, plans to play for Vanderbilt University.


Coach of the year: Frank Carey, North Reading

In his 47th year coaching the Hornets, Carey led them to a Division 3 state title with a record of 22-4. He has a career record of 697-266 and this fall will be elected into the National High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

Coach of the year: Don Chouinard, Bishop Connolly

Chouinard led the Cougars to a 17-7 record as the team reached the Division 4 South final before falling to Harwich. He has collected 293 wins in 32 years of coaching at Bishop Connolly and this season was named the Mayflower League Large coach of the year.

Coach of the year: William Cuthbertson, Dighton-Rehoboth

Cuthbertson led the Falcons to a 20-3 record and their 14th South Coast Conference title in the last 18 years as Dighton-Rehoboth reached the North Division 2 final. In 33 seasons at D-R, Cuthbertson is 484-227.

Coach of the year: Dan Graham, Lowell

Graham led the the Red Raiders to an impressive 21-5 finish. After finishing the regular season 17-4, he led Lowell to the North Division 1 title before falling to Xaverian in the EMass final. He has led Lowell to three straight Merrimack Valley titles and is 76-46 in five seasons.
