College hockey roundup: Northeastern falls to UMass-Lowell

It’s been all downhill for Northeastern since opening the season with wins over Merrimack and Boston College. And a lack of scoring is to blame.

Ryan McGrath had a goal and an assist and backup goalie Connor Hellebuyck made 25 saves as UMass-Lowell (5-7-1, 3-6-1 Hockey East) handed the Huskies a 2-0 defeat Saturday night at the Tsongas Center.

The loss dropped NU (3-8-1 in conference) to 3-9-1 since the 2-0 start, with two wins coming over Alabama-Huntsville. The Huskies have been shut out three times and have scored more than three goals only once — in a 4-2 win over Merrimack Oct. 10.

Adam Phillips and Branden Gracel scored in the first period, and UMass entered the final period ahead, 2-1. But Bartliff beat Kevin Boyle (18 saves) at 4:39 to tie it and the Raiders added three goals in a span of 5:52 to cruise to the win.

Quinnipiac 3, Princeton 0 — Mike Dalhuisen scored twice and Eric Hartzell (18 saves) earned his 40th career victory as the 13th-ranked Bobcats (12-3-2, 8-0-0 ECAC) blanked the host Tigers (3-6-3, 2-3-3) and increased their unbeaten streak to 10 games (9-0-1).

Yale 2, Union 2 — Charles Orzetti and Gus Young scored in the third period, rallying the No. 15 Bulldogs (6-3-2, 3-3-1 ECAC) to a tie with the 12th-ranked Dutchmen (8-3-4, 3-2-3) in New Haven.

Brown 2, Rensselaer 2 — Matt Lorito had a goal and an assist and Chris Zaires scored at 12:30 of the third period to help the host Bears (3-5-4, 0-3-4 ECAC) tie the Engineers (4-6-4, 1-5-2).
