College basketball roundup: Butler tops No. 1 Indiana

Walk-on Alex Barlow nailed a 6-foot jumper with 2.4 seconds left in overtime and Butler stunned No. 1 Indiana, 88-86, Saturday in the Crossroads Classic at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

It was the Bulldogs’ first victory over a top-ranked team in school history.

Roosevelt Jones added 16 points, 12 rebounds, and 6 assists for Butler (8-2) before fouling out with 2:03 left in regulation.

Butler led, 71-64, when Jones fouled out, and the Hoosiers responded with 5 straight points from the free throw line and tied the score on Yogi Ferrell’s 3-pointer from the right wing with 6.1 seconds to go.

The Hoosiers (9-1) were led by Cody Zeller, who had 18 points, including a layup to tie the score at 86 with 19.3 seconds left in overtime.

Michigan 81, West Virginia 66 — Trey Burke scored 27 points and had eight assists and the No. 3 Wolverines (11-0) outpaced the Mountaineers (4-5) at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Syracuse 85, Canisius 61 — Michael Carter-Williams chipped in 12 points and 14 assists as the No. 4 Orange (9-0) cruised past the visiting Golden Griffins (6-2).

Arizona 65, Florida 64 — Mark Lyons’s runner with seven seconds left lifted the No. 8 Wildcats (8-0) to a home win over the No. 5 Gators (7-1).

Louisville 87, Memphis 78 — Chane Behanan scored 22 points and the No. 6 Cardinals (9-1) rallied from a 16-point first-half deficit to beat the host Tigers (6-3).

Ohio State 90, N.C.-Asheville 72 — The seventh-ranked Buckeyes (8-1) sprinted past the visiting Bulldogs (3-7) behind a career-high 18 points from Sam Thompson.

Kansas 89, Belmont 60 — In Lawrence, Kan., Jeff Withey had 14 points and five blocks as the No. 9 Jayhawks (8-1) breezed past the Bruins (6-3).

Cincinnati 72, Marshall 56 — The No. 11 Bearcats (10-0) beat the host Thundering Herd (6-5) behind Cashmere Wright’s 14 points.

Notre Dame 81, Purdue 68 — Jack Cooley had 18 points and nine rebounds to lead the No. 22 Fighting Irish (9-1) past the Boilermakers (4-6) in Indianapolis.

Rhode Island 72, SMU 50 — Mike Powell’s 18 points lifted the Rams (3-8) past the Mustangs (8-2) in Kingston, R.I.

Arizona State 61, Dartmouth 42 — Carrick Felix had 13 points and 14 rebounds and the Sun Devils (9-2) put away the visiting Big Green. Gabas Maldunas scored 12 points for Dartmouth (2-7).

Women

Stanford 78, Pacific 43 — The top-ranked Cardinal (9-0) blitzed the Tigers (7-2) behind 31 points and 13 rebounds from Chiney Ogwumike.

Fla. International 64, Dartmouth 57 — Jerica Coley had 39 points and six steals to propel the host Golden Panthers (5-4) past the Big Green. Abbey Schmitt scored 13 points for Dartmouth (1-8).
