Patrice Bergeron sent the Rangers’ Ryan McDonagh crashing into the boards on opening night.

Every Sunday, Boston Globe photographer Stan Grossfeld asks the subject of one of his photos to explain what’s happening in the shot.

Who’s up today: The Bruins’ Patrice Bergeron sent the Rangers’ Ryan McDonagh crashing into the boards on opening night, Jan. 19.

Bergeron: “We talked about how it was very important to get a fast start. Right there, I just got a puck in the face and I was trying to realize what happened and I was like, ‘Oh my God, did that just happen?’ And then I decided to finish my check, I guess. The intensity and the emotion of the fans helps you on the ice. He didn’t say anything to me. It’s part of the game — a clean hit — so I think he was fine with it.”
