Notes: Tampa’s Da’Quan Bowers arrested on gun charge

Buccaneers defensive end Da’Quan Bowers was arrested for carrying a gun at New York’s LaGuardia Airport Monday. He was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and posted a $10,000 bond.

Bowers was arrested at LaGuardia after police discovered he was illegally carrying a loaded .40 caliber handgun in his carry-on luggage while at the check-in counter. He was reportedly scheduled to be on a US Airways flight to Raleigh, N.C.

A second-round draft pick in 2011, Bowers played in 10 games and recorded three sacks in 2012.

Former Giants star Plaxico Burress was arrested on the same charge, which carries a maximum sentence of 3½ years in prison, after he accidentally shot himself in a nightclub in 2008. He pled to a lesser charge and served 20 months in prison.
