Jaromir Jagr acknowledged cheers from fans after notching his 1,000th career assist last week.

Earlier today, Peter Chiarelli strengthened his team’s top-nine attack by adding a future Hall of Famer to the mix.

“His career speaks for itself,” the Bruins GM said of 41-year-old right wing Jaromir Jagr. “He’s a strong player, protects the puck well. It’s consistent with our style in the sense that there’s a cycle element to his game. He’s good on the half-wall, really good release, shot. He’s just a real good player.”

Chiarelli hinted that Jagr will most likely start his Bruins career on the third line alongside Rich Peverley. Jagr could make his debut on Thursday at TD Garden against New Jersey. Jagr is scheduled to arrive in Boston tomorrow.

“He gives us an element of offense,” Chiarelli said. “He gives us an element of size. In this day and age, you have to have the strength, fortitude, body, whatever you want to call it, to get to the front of the net.”

Chiarelli compared the acquisition to landing Mark Recchi in 2010 – a veteran forward toward the end of his career. Jagr will be more of a complementary piece than a go-to attacker.

* Chiarelli noted that Jagr, Kaspars Daugavins, and possibly Carl Soderberg could be on the roster. With that area addressed, the Bruins will most likely look to acquire a defenseman tomorrow, if possible.

* Dallas will land Boston’s 2013 first-round pick if the Bruins advance to the Eastern Conference Final. Chiarelli explained, however, that they could still put their first-rounder in play tomorrow with conditions attached. For example, if the condition with Dallas vests, the Bruins could make their 2013 first-rounder a 2014 first-round pick.
