NU’s Jonathan Lee is on Celtics’ radar

Former Northeastern guard Jonathan Lee made another trip to the Celtics’ practice facility in Waltham Tuesday for his second pre-draft workout with the team.

The 6-foot-2-inch guard is pegged to go somewhere in the second round in the June 27 NBA draft.

The Celtics have only the No. 16 pick in the first round, but the team is in need of a backup point guard and is looking at numerous options, such as Lee, Miami’s Shane Larkin, and German prospect Dennis Schroeder, all of whom have worked out for the Celtics.

Lee averaged 13.8 points, 4 assists, and 4.4 rebounds for the Huskies last season as the team won 20 games and advanced to the NIT first round.

The Celtics also worked out Duke center Mason Plumlee, Miami center Reggie Johnson, and Belmont guard Ian Clark at their facility Tuesday.

Of those four, only Plumlee is expected to be drafted in the first round, though most mock drafts have him being selected closer to the end of the round.

The Celtics are in need of a center, as they only have Kevin Garnett and Fab Melo under contract for next season – and the 37-year-old Garnett is not a given to return.

There were rumors that the Celtics had promised to take Schroeder in the first round, but his agent, Alex Saratsis, denied that there were any promises made, according to a report in the Journal Times of Racine, Wisc.

“I don’t know where that came from,” Saratsis said.

Schroeder told the Journal Times that he was scheduled to work out for three teams — Boston, Dallas, and Utah — before he returns to Germany.

Surgery for Terry

President of basketball operations Danny Ainge confirmed that 35-year-old shooting guard Jason Terry recently had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee.

Terry had the procedure to remove a plica, which is the thickening or folding of a ligament, which can interfere with joint function.

Terry tweeted a photo of himself on an anti-gravity treadmill that is commonly used by athletes who are rehabbing after an injury or surgery to their lower body.

With the photo, Terry tweeted the message, “Road to recovery #rehab.”

Terry is coming off a poor season in which he averaged his fewest points (10.1) since his rookie season (8.1). He sat out the final two regular season games but came alive in the playoffs with four straight double-digit scoring games.

Terry is under contract for the next two seasons.

Ainge also confirmed that guard Terrence Williams recently had an injection into one of his knees, in which he had a case of tendinitis.

There also has been no resolution to the incident in which Williams allegedly threatened the mother of his 10-year-old son with a gun in Kent, Wash.

Williams is being investigated for charges of second degree domestic assault, but a King County prosecutor’s office spokesman said earlier this week that prosecutors were not ready to bring charges against Williams and that the investigation was ongoing.

James lauds Pierce

In an interview with NBA.com that was posted online, Miami Heat star LeBron James was asked to name his biggest rival in the league.

“I would say that I don’t really have an individual rivalry, [but] I think the closest would be Paul Pierce,” James said.

“I would say Boston is a rival of mine because I’ve met them so many times in the postseason.”
