Larry Lucchino showed off the Red Sox’ World Series trophy before the Bruins’ game Thursday.

The Bruins came up just short of a championship in June, but they finally were able to show off some 2013 hardware when they honored the newly-minted World Series champion Red Sox on Thursday night.

Bruins president Cam Neely welcomed Red Sox president Larry Lucchino and the World Series trophy onto the ice before the game against Anaheim.

Lucchino held the trophy aloft to roaring cheers from the TD Garden crowd. Lucchino also placed a World Series champion hat on Neely and allowed him to hoist the hardware.

It’s likely the beginning of a long journey around New England for the World Series trophy, which will be on display again Saturday when the Red Sox are feted with a rolling rally through the streets of Boston.
