Bentley wastes chances, falls to Canisius in Atlantic Hockey quarterfinals

Bentley had chances in its best-of-three Atlantic Hockey quarterfinal series against seventh-seeded Canisius.

The second-seeded Falcons won the first game in OT, but lost the second in double OT after Canisius scored three goals in the third to tie the game.

In the deciding game on Sunday in Watertown, Bentley held a 2-1 lead after the first before falling to the Golden Griffins, 3-2. Alex Grieve and Brett Gensler scored for the Falcons (19-14-4).

Mitch McCrank had a hat trick for Canisius (16-20-3), which faces Mercyhurst in the semifinals next weekend.

In the third game of another Atlantic Hockey quarterfinal series, Matt Williams scored in OT and Niagara defeated host Air Force, 4-3. The Purple Eagles will face Robert Morris.

ECAC quarterfinals — Brian Ferlin scored in OT, lifting host Cornell to a 1-0 win over Clarkson in the deciding game of the best-of-three series. Cornell (17-9-5) faces Union in a semifinals.

NCAA Div. 3 tourney — Jamie Murray made 24 saves for host Babson (22-5-2) but Oswego State earned a 3-0 victory. The Lakers (22-6-2) face Wisconsin-Stevens Point in the semifinals . . . Norwich (20-7-3) was staked to a 2-0 lead, but Tyler Brickler potted three straight to lift host Geneseo State to a 3-2 win. The Knights (23-6-0) face St. Norbert in the semifinals.
