Boston College confirmed Monday that Joe Rahon, a sophomore guard on the basketball team, has decided to transfer to Saint Mary’s.

Rahon, of San Diego, ranked as the team’s No. 3 scorer last season at 9.0 points per game.

He was preceded in his decision to leave BC by junior forward Ryan Anderson, who also is transferring after an 8-24 campaign and a coaching change at The Heights.

The Globe first reported that the two players were considering transferring before BC’s appearance against Georgia Tech in the first round of the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament. Although he initially disputed that report following the season-ending overtime loss to the Yellow Jackets, Rahon met with new coach Jim Christian last week and informed him of his decision to leave for the West Coast Conference school in Moraga, Calif.

Rahon, who was listed as a team cocaptain along with Anderson, averaged 33.3 minutes and started 31 of 32 games last season under former coach Steve Donahue.
