Red Sox closer Koji Uehara has been chosen to replace Yankees starting pitcher Masahiro Tanaka in the All-Star Game next week in Minneapolis.
Tanaka was placed in the disabled list with elbow inflammation and was scheduled to have an MRI.
It is the first All-Star selection for Uehara, who has 18 saves in 19 save opportunities this season and has a 1.30 ERA. He has struck out 52 and walked six.
