Traditionally, the Monday before Major League Baseball’s annual All-Star game is one of the quieter nights on the sports calendar. But former NESN reporter Jenny Dell made some noise the other night when she announced on Twitter that she is engaged to Will Middlebrooks, the onetime Red Sox third baseman who’s currently in the minor leagues recovering from an injury.

As if that wasn’t enough, she also posted a minute-long video clip of a surprise engagement party on her public YouTube channel. The video shows Dell walking into a bar trailed by Middlebrooks as a crowd of well-wishers yell “surprise.”

Dell left NESN earlier this year and joined CBS Sports, where she’ll serve as a sideline reporter during the network’s NFL coverage. Middlebrooks broke his right index figure May 16 and has yet to return to the team. It’s possible, perhaps even likely, that he will be shipped out of town by the Red Sox before Major League Baseball’s trade deadline July 31. The ballplayer was previously engaged to former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader Ann Lux. Their relationship ended in 2012.
