NESN hires Guerin Austin as rinkside Bruins reporter

Guerin Austin.

NESN has hired Guerin Austin as the network’s Bruins rinkside reporter, replacing Jamie Erdahl, who is leaving to become to the lead college football sideline reporter on the CBS Sports Network.

Erdahl also will work Southeastern Conference games on CBS.

Austin’s experience covering hockey includes five years in Washington, where she hosted Caps Red Line, a weekly look at the Capitals that aired on the NHL Network.

She was also an in-arena host for the team’s home games.

Austin, who was Miss Nebraska in 2004, will also anchor and host NESN programming, and will provide features to “NESN Sports Today” and “NESN Live.”

The affable Erdahl, who joined NESN in October 2012, will transition out of her role at the network over the next month.

She won’t be easily replaced. Erdahl proved to be adept and quick-witted in the often thankless role of sideline reporter, first as a fill-in for Jenny Dell on Red Sox broadcasts. Erdahl spent last season as the Bruins’ rinkside reporter.
