    Runners of the Year

    Quinn Cooney

    Division 1: Chelmsford

    Cooney was unbeatable this season, winning the Ocean State Invitational (15:45), the MVC meet (16:10), the Division 2 Eastern Mass. championship meet (15:37.2), and the Division 1 All State meet (15:44). The senior, who also runs indoor track and plays baseball, will attend Dartmouth College next fall.

    Nick Carleo

    Division 4: Newburyport

    The senior won his second straight individual Division 2 All State title (15:50.7) this season and helped the Clippers finish second as a team. The 2014 Eastern Mass. Division 5 champion finished his high school career a perfect 39-0 in Cape Ann League meets.

    All-Scholastics

    Daniel Aschale, Cambridge, junior

    Aschale captured fifth place at the Division 1 All State meet this season (16:01), finishing first for the runner-up Falcons. The junior and GBL All-Star took fourth at the Bob McIntyre Twilight Invitational (15:41) and seventh at the Division 1 Eastern Mass. championships (15.51.1).

    Larry Carney, Lowell, senior

    The Red Raiders’ senior captain finished fourth at the 2014 All State meet with a time of 16:01 to lead his team to the Division 1 title. Carney holds the second-fastest time on Lowell’s home course and also runs indoor and outdoor track.

    Andrew Ernst, Marblehead, junior

    Ernst racked up the hardware this season, winning the Division 2 races at the Frank Kelley Invitational (16:20) and the Bob McIntyre Twilight Invitational (16:01). The Northeastern Conference MVP took second at the Division 2 All State meet (15:56.35) and third at the Division 4 Eastern Mass. championships (15:51.6).

    Mike Famiglietti, Tewksbury, senior

    The senior finished seventh in the Division 2 All State meet, setting a Tewksbury record for Franklin Park’s 5K course (16.11.1). Famiglietti took second in the Eastern Mass. Division 4 meet (15:46.3) and has been named to the MVC All-Conference team twice.

    P.J. Garmon, Billerica, senior

    The three-time Globe All-Scholastic finished second at this season’s Division 1 All State meet (15:47) and second at the Division 2 Eastern Mass. championship meet (15:49.1). Garmon also finished first at the Bob McIntyre Twilight Invitational. The senior also runs indoor and outdoor track.

    Ben Jacobson, Lexington, senior

    Jacobson finished seventh in Division 1 at this year’s All State meet in 16:04 and took fourth in the Division 1 race at the Eastern Mass. championships (15:41.1). The senior, who was this season’s Middlesex League champion, also runs indoor and outdoor track.

    Adam Petti, West Bridgewater, senior

    The two-time Mayflower League champion won the Eastern Mass. Division 6 championship (16:09.8) and finished third at the Division 2 All State meet (16:02.58). The senior captain qualified as an individual for the All State meet four years in a row. He also runs indoor and outdoor track.

    Jeff Reddy, Methuen, junior

    The junior captured third place at this season’s Eastern Mass. Division 1 meet (16:36.8). Reddy crossed the line 13th at the Division 1 All State meet (16:07) to lead the Rangers to a third-place team finish and is an MVC indoor 2-mile champion.

    Marcelo Rocha, Peabody, sophomore

    Just a sophomore, Rocha took first in the Division 1 race at the Frank Kelley Invitational (16.11.53) and second in the Eastern Mass. Division 1 championship race (15:35.9) this season. He finished eighth at the Division 1 All State meet (16:04) to help the Tanners take fourth.

    Austin Scola, Medfield, senior

    The Division 4 Eastern Mass. champion finished eighth at the 2014 Division 2 All State meet (16:11.45). Scola holds the Tri-Valley League course record along with Medfield’s home course record and is a member of the Warriors’ state record-holding 4x1,600-meter outdoor relay team.

    Sam Stubbs, Cambridge, junior

    The junior finished sixth at the Division 1 All State meet (16:03) to help the Falcons capture second place as a team. Stubbs finished fifth at the Eastern Mass. Division 1 championship meet (15:46.0). He also runs indoor and outdoor track for Cambridge.

    Lucas Taxter, Xaverian, senior

    Taxter, a senior, cruised to a first-place finish at the Eastern Mass. Division 1 championship meet (15.23.5) this season before taking third place at the Division 1 All State meet (15:52). He also runs indoor and outdoor track for the Hawks and will attend Stonehill.

    Coaches of the Year

    Bill James

    Division 1: Methuen

    The Rangers went 9-1 this fall and finished second in the Merrimack Valley Conference, third in Division 1 at the EMass meet and third at the All-State meet. James also coaches wrestling and has been the Globe’s Coach of the Year in both sports.

    Chuck Martin

    Division 4: Norwell

    In his 26th year of coaching cross-country, Martin led Norwell to a 7-0 record this fall in the South Shore League. The Clippers were fourth in the EMass Division 5 meet and seventh in Division 2 All-States. The Medford High and UMass-grad also coaches track.
