Sunday in Fort Myers: Alexi Ogando worth keeping an eye on

Alexi Ogando participated in a morning workout Saturday in Fort Myers, Fla.AP

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Good morning from Fort Myers and happy birthday to Daniel Nava, who is 32.

Today is the second workout for pitchers and catchers and it’s pretty much the same as Saturday. Half of the pitchers will throw in the bullpen and the other half will go through fielding drills.

It’s a quick session, roughly 90 minutes or so. Pitchers throwing bullpens include Joe Kelly, Justin Masterson, Matt Barnes, Henry Owens and Alexi Ogando.

Ogando is a pitcher to keep an eye on. He has had two years worth of injury problems and was able to get only a $1.5 million guarantee. So it would be no surprise if he didn’t make it out of camp. But if he can recapture what he once had, the Red Sox would have another late-inning option.

Righthanders have hit only .220 against Ogando in his career with a .626 OPS.

The position players who have reported early will be on the field at 10 a.m. They will do some throwing and take batting practice.

It’s 61 degrees at the Fort and headed to 81. Also it’s the last day for the free RV show in the front parking lot. Don’t miss it.
