Swimmers of the Year
Division 1: Westford, 100 breast/200 IM
Poon finishes his career in style, winning the Division 1 state championship in the 100 breast (55.19) and 200 IM (1:47.17). The five-time state champion also anchored the Grey Ghosts winning 400 free relay team.
Division 2: Mystic Valley, 50 free
Kinnon led Mystic Valley to thirdplace at the Division 2 states. He earned a state title in the 50 freestyle in 21.43. Kinnon was second in the 100 breaststroke (59.61), and led his 200 medley relay team to third place (1:40.26).
Gabriel Bamforth, Cambridge, senior
Bamforth blew away the competition, earning 609.80 points in winning his second straight Division 1 state diving title. He also finished first at the North sectionals. Bamforth will study engineering at Carnegie Mellon next fall.
Austin Critchlow, Weston, senior
Critchlow was undefeated in dual meets in the 100 backstroke. He won the same event in the Division 2 state meet in 51.97. Critchlow was also a part of the 200 medley relay team that won the Division 2 title in 1:37.24.
Alex Gallant, Apponequet, senior
Gallant owns the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke sectional titles. He continued his success by winning the Division 2 state title in the 200 individual medley in a time of 1:55.62. Gallant holds six school records.
Jason Jung, Westford, sophomore
A repeat All-Scholastic, Jung helped lead the Ghosts to the Division 1 state title. At the state meet, he won the 200 free in 1:41.45. He also won the same event at the North Sectional. Jung was a member of the winning 200 free relay.
Jack Koravos, Westford, junior
Koravos went undefeated in the 100 butterfly and led the Grey Ghosts to an 11-0 season in the Dual County. He won the 100 butterfly at the Division 1 state championship (51.08) for the second straight year.
Andrew Majeski, Chelmsford, senior
Majeski ended his career by winning the Division 1 state championship in the 500 freestyle (4:38.33). He was second in the 200 freestyle (1:43.06). Majeski is a reigning two-time MVC Swimmer of the Year.
Corben Miles, Acton-Boxborough, sophomore
Miles set the 50 free record of 20:49 at this year’s Division 1 state championships, breaking his own record set last year as a freshman. He also won the 100 free state title in 46:48, helping A-B finish third.
Jackson P. Perry, Bishop Feehan, senior
Perry broke the Division 2 meet record in the 100 butterfly (50.11), and won the state title. His performance at the states got him All-American consideration. He holds school records in the 100 butterfly and 50 free (22.00).
John P. Prindle, Weston, junior
Prindle won the Division 2 100 breaststroke title in 59.06. The three-time junior national qualifier has broken multiple New England records. He also contributed to the winning 200 medley relay team.
Charlie Seltzer, Marblehead, senior
Seltzer won the Division 2 state championship in the 200 freestyle in 1:42.33. The Northeastern Conference All-Star also placed second in the 100 freestyle (47.66) and was fourth in the 200 IM at the Norrth sectional.
Joel Sibley, Concord-Carlisle, senior
Sibley ended his high school career with a Division 2 state title in the 100 free (46.43). He holds two school records for 100 breaststroke and 200 IM. He also holds the New England age group record for the 400-meter free relay.
Joseph Turk, St. John’s Prep, junior
Turk’s dominance in the 100 backstroke continued this year at the Division 1 state final, where he won with a time of 50.22, setting a meet record. He is also an All-American in the 200 individual medley.
Westford, 200 freestyle
This talented group helped Westford dethrone nine-time champion St. John’s Prep in the Division 1 state final. They finished first with a time of 1:26.38. The team also took the North sectional title in 1:28.52. Jung, Pilachowski, Yao, and Koravos all earned Dual County League All-Star honors. Yao was also fourth in the 100 breast at states.
St. John’s Prep, 200 medley
This 200 medley squad got the Division 1 meet started right for the Eagles, winning with a time of 1:34.85. Prep also won the event at the North sectional, finishing in 1:37.42. Turk, the 100 back individual champion, combined with junior Gowdy, Yish, and Hodgeman. Turk, Hodgman, and Gowdy were Catholic Conference All-Stars. Yish finished third at states in the butterfly.
Westford, 400 freestyle
Jung and Pilachowski were both members of the winning 200 free relay and for the 400 are joined by Poon and Yao. At the North sectional they won in 3:10.30. Two weeks later they also won the Division 1 state title, finishing in 3:09.27. Poon is a two-time Swimmer of the Year and state champ in the 200 IM and 100 breast. Yao is a junior and also competes in the 200 IM and 100 back.
Coaches of the Year
Division 1: Westford
In her 19th year of coaching, Kinnett led the Grey Ghosts to a 11-0 dual meet record, Dual County League championship, and a Division 1 state championship. The Grey Ghosts also finished second at the North sectionals.
Division 2: Mystic Valley
Dan is in his 11th season as coach at Mystic Valley. This winter he led his team to a third-place finish at Division 2 states and for the past eight seasons the Eagles have won the Commonwealth Conference title. He is 98-15 overall.
