Players of the Year
Division 1: Riley James, Barnstable
A repeat All-Scholastic, James led the state with 518 kills to go with 217 digs in leading Barnstable to a second straight title. She is a two-time member of the Coaches All-State team, and a member of the Spanish National Honor Society.
Division 2: Athena Ardila, Weston
Committed to play for Northeastern, Ardila tallied 368 kills, good for third in the state, to go with 203 digs. A DCL All-Star and a three-time member of the Coaches All-State team, she owns the state record for career kills (1,642).
Division 3: Madison Majewski, Case
The senior captain and All-State selection finished fourth in the state with 689 assists in leading Case to the Division 3 state title. A South Coast Conference All-Star, she finished her career with 1,331 assists.
Caroline Brodt, Barnstable, junior
Brodt led the state and set a school single-season record with 899 assists for Division 1 champion Barnstable. A member of the Coaches All-State team, the setter is also a member of the Spanish and National Honor Societies.
Molly Camelo, Bishop Fenwick, senior
Camelo recorded 292 kills, 74 blocks and 35 aces for Division 2 North champion Bishop Fenwick. A two-time Catholic Central All-Star and a member of the Coaches All-State team, She is a member of the National Honor Society.
Abigail Criser, Dennis-Yarmouth, junior
Criser finished second in the state with 372 kills, leading the Dolphins to an Atlantic Coast League title and a Division 2 South semifinal appearance. A member of the Coaches All-State team, she is a three-time ACL All-Star.
Victoria Crovo, Melrose, senior
Named Middlesex League Freedom co-MVP, the 5-foot-10 Crovo racked up 229 kills this season for Melrose and was named to the Coaches Division 2 All-State team. A three-year captain finished her career with 832 kills.
Danielle Derosier, Barnstable, senior
In helping Barnstable win the Division 1 state title, the 5-foot-6 libero led the defensive effort with 326 digs, 412 serve receptions and 211 service points. Derosier is a member of the Coaches Division 1 All-State team.
Amanda Gilbert, Hopkinton, junior
A Tri-Valley All-Star and a member of the Coaches All-State team, she tallied 195 kills and 185 digs in helping Hopkinton win the Division 2 state title. A National Honor Society member, it was her second state title with Hopkinton.
Katie Howley, Notre Dame (Hingham), senior
In leading Notre Dame to the Division 2 state final, Howley tallied 226 kills and 116 digs, bringing her career totals to 646 and 431. In her junior year, Notre Dame won the state title. The Marshfield resident hopes to play in college.
Dalena Huynh, Burlington, senior
Huynh tallied 665 assists, 152 digs, and 44 kills in leading Burlington to the Division 2 North final, earning her Middlesex League co-MVP honors. She was also a member of the Coaches Division 2 All-State team.
Isabella Larco, Acton-Boxborough, senior
The 2016 Dual County League MVP, Larco tallied 313 kills and 288 digs in leading Acton-Boxborough to the Division 1 Central-West title. A three-time league all-star, she finished her career with 824 kills.
Michelle Legatova, Newton North, junior
Legatova was all over the court for Division 1 state finalist Newton North, racking up 167 kills, 180 digs, and 91 aces on the season. A member of the Coaches Asociation All-State team, the junior led the Tigers to an 18-0 regular season.
Julia McBride, Andover, senior
The senior captain finished the year with 271 assists, 162 kills and 190 digs in leading Andover to the Division 1 North final. A two-time Merrimack Valley All-Conference player, she graduates with 399 kills.
Rachel Melampy, Duxbury, junior
An outside hitter, Melampy logged 318 kills to go with her 72 digs and 16 blocks in helping Duxbury to the Division 2 South semifinals. She is a three-sport Patriot League All-Star and a member of the Coaches All-State team.
Katie Nugent, Lynnfield, senior
The Cape Ann League Player of the Year logged 284 kills and 105 digs in helping Lynnfield win a seventh consecutive Division 3 North crown. Finishing with 634 kills and 428 digs, the senior is also a league all-star in tennis.
Ashley Wang, Newton North, sophomore
Wang tallied 280 assists to go with 164 kills and 67 aces for Division 1 runner-up Newton North. The Bay State Conference All-Star was also selected to the Coaches Association All-State team, one of three Tigers on the team.
Anna Zucchero, Newton North, senior
In helping Newton North to a one-loss season and the Division 1 state final, Zucchero logged 335 digs. A Bay State Conference All-Star and member of the Coaches Association All-State team, she finished her career with 534 digs.
Coaches of the Year
Division 1: Darren Gwin, Acton-Boxborough
For the first time in program history, the Colonials won the Division 1 Central-West title along with the Dual County League title. A-B finished 20-4 overall, led by their second-year coach. Gwin is a Newton North grad.
Division 2: Adam DeBaggis, Bishop Fenwick
DeBaggis led Bishop Fenwick to a 20-6 season and a Division 2 North crown. In eight seasons, he owns a 141-42 career record. Also the coach of the girls’ basketball team, he graduated from Franklin High and Worcester State.
Division 3: Michaela Goncalves, Case
Goncalves led Case to a South Coast Conference championship and ended Frontier’s rule in the Division 3 state title game. She has a 69-8 career record and is taking her second straight Coach of the Year award.
