Details are emerging about UFC 220, which is scheduled Jan. 20 at TD Garden. Daniel Cormier (19-1 MMA, 8-1 UFC) announced on Wednesday night he will be on the card to defend his light heavyweight title.

Cormier’s opponent will be Volkan Oezdemir, who has won his last two bouts with first-round knockouts.

The bout appeared to be in jeopardy because Oezdemir was arrested this month in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and charged with aggravated battery after he was involved in a fight at a bar. He was released on $10,000 bail and has maintained he was not the agressor. Oezdemir is from Switzerland, and now trains out of Coconut Creek, Fla.

It will be Cormier’s first trip back to the Octagon since fighting Jon Jones at UFC 214 in July. Jones defeated Cormier with a knockout in the third round. However, the fight was overturned to a no-contest when Jones tested positive for the steroid Turinabol.

Cormier, 38, was again the named the champion, and will put that title on the line in a five-round fight in Boston.

“I’m excited to get back in there,’’ Cormier said. “I’m excited to get the stain off me, to go out there and put on just a classic Daniel Cormier performance where I drown him and I smother him, and I just take this dude out. I’m excited. I’m pumped.”
