Northeastern will name Jeff Konya as director of athletics

Northeastern University will name Jeff Konya its new director of athletics, according to multiple reports.

Konya will be introduced on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the school’s Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Complex.

Konya joins Northeastern after 3½ years at Oakland University in Michigan, where the school was the winningest program in the Horizon League over the past three seasons. He was recognized as one of Under Armour’s Athletic Directors of the Year in 2016-17 and is known for his excellence in sports marketing.

A graduate of Princeton University who completed his J.D. at the University of Iowa, Konya previously served as athletic director at Northeastern State in Oklahoma, and has held athletic leadership positions at SMU, Memphis, Bucknell, and the University of Texas at San Antonio.

Konya takes over for Peter Roby, who will retire after 15 years at NU, including the last 10 as athletic director.
