The ancient Irish sport of hurling will make its return to Fenway Park with a four-team tournament for the Players Champions Cup Nov. 18. This is the third time in four years hurling will be contested within the confines of Fenway after a 61-year absence.
“Hurling has been one of the most popular offseason events that Fenway Park has hosted in recent years, and the tournament format introduced last year added to the excitement,” said Fenway Sports Management managing director Mark Lev.
The four teams in the competition will be Clare (last year’s tournament winner), 2018 All-Ireland champion Limerick, plus Cork and Wexford.

The event will begin at 12:30 p.m. and will include Irish food, music, and dancing in a festival atmosphere.
“Hurling is the one of the greatest games in the world, and whether it’s American football in Dublin, college hockey in Belfast, or hurling right here in Fenway: It’s uniquely Irish and uniquely Boston,” said Mayor Marty Walsh.
Hurling joins a growing list of non-baseball events at Fenway Park in the next year that includes the 135th edition of the Harvard-Yale football game (Nov. 17) and the extreme sport of ice cross downhill (Feb. 8-9).
