Tiger Woods’s first PGA Tour victory in more than five years delivered huge ratings for NBC. But while he beat the field in the Tour Championship, he did not defeat the NFL.

The final round of Woods’s long-awaited 80th career victory earned a 5.31 overnight rating in the 3-6:15 p.m. window Sunday, up a staggering 206 percent over last year’s 1.70. It was the highest-rated PGA Tour telecast of the 2018 season, excluding majors.

Viewership peaked during the 5:30-6 p.m. window (7.19), while Woods was finishing his round and Justin Rose was wrapping up the FedEx Cup championship.

As compelling as Woods’s victory was, the ratings did not approach the numbers for the 4:15 NFL broadcast on Fox between the Cowboys (always a huge draw) and Seahawks. That game earned a 15.3 rating, up 11 percent over the national game in the same Week 3 window on CBS last year.
