Austin Cave, St. Mark’s School: The 6-foot-4 senior righthander struck out 15 of the 21 batters he faced and allowed just two hits in a 2-0 win over ­Buckingham Browne & Nichols.

Joe Evangelista, St. John’s High: With two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, the junior from Southborough hit a walk-off grand slam to beat ­Doherty Memorial, 9-5.


Maddie Orcutt, Lexington: With 14 strikeouts in a 4-0 win over Woburn and 12 more in a 3-0 victory over Medford, the junior righthander has helped her team jump out to a 4-1 start.

Mike Richardson, Belmont: The senior helped carry the Marauders when he went 4 for 4 with a home run and six RBIs to beat Wakefiled, 8-5. He also struck out the side in the seventh ­inning to earn the save.

Emily Sargent, Nashoba Regional: In a mercy-rule shortened game, the junior struck out 15 in five innings in a 15-1 win over North Middlesex Regional.

baseball game to watch

Shrewsbury vs. Nashoba Regional, Mon., 4 p.m.: Two of the best in Central Massachusetts square off to get an early gauge of where they stand. Colonials senior righty Jay Reynolds has helped keep his team perfect after four games, while Nashoba Regional senior Jack Sarnoski, who quarterbacked the Chieftains to the Division 2 Super Bowl ­title last fall, gives his team a chance to win whenever he takes the hill.
