The Bruins gave World Cup participants Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand, Zdeno Chara, David Backes, and Christian Ehrhoff the day off from practice Wednesday.

It was not just a rest day, however, for Kevan Miller. The right-side defenseman left Tuesday’s preseason game against Montreal after being hit in the left leg by a deflected Andrei Markov shot. Miller missed practice and is being evaluated. Given that Miller didn’t finish the game, it’s unlikely he’ll be in uniform Thursday against Columbus.

Ryan Spooner, who played left wing Tuesday night alongside Backes and David Krejci, was on the left side again Wednesday. Spooner skated with Krejci and David Pastrnak. Spooner bowled over Colin Miller during an end-zone drill, a hit that had some of his teammates buzzing in the dressing room after practice.
