Winthrop men's basketball coach Pat Kelsey had a last-minute change of heart last week after accepting the head coaching opening at UMass, leaving the school in need of a coach. But on Saturday, according to an NBA source, UMass representatives reached out to Celtics assistant coach Micah Shrewsberry to arrange a second interview for the job.

Shrewsberry completed a preliminary interview earlier this month.

He has been one of Celtics coach Brad Stevens's top aides in Boston since Stevens was hired in 2013. In 2015, Shrewsberry was handed the reins of Boston's defense, which is now in position to finish in the top 10 under his watch for the second consecutive season. Shrewsberry has served as the head coach of the Celtics' summer league team, and he has extensive experience as an assistant coach at the college level.

Shrewsberry coached under Stevens when Butler University reached back-to-back national title games in 2010 and 2011, and was then an assistant at Purdue for two years before coming to Boston.
