Emmanuel Mudiay is headed to the Knicks, with Denver adding guard Devin Harris from Dallas on Thursday in a three-team deadline trade that the Nuggets hope will give them needed experience for a playoff push.
The rebuilding Mavericks will get Doug McDermott from New York, which is fading from postseason contention and just lost All-Star forward Kristaps Porzingis to a season-ending knee injury.
Mudiay was the No. 7 pick in the 2015 draft and a former starter, but hasn’t started a game this season and is averaging a career-worst 8.5 points in about 18 minutes per game.
Harris, 34, was having another solid season in his second stint with the Mavericks, who traded up to get him with the fifth pick in the 2004 draft. He returned to Dallas in 2013 after stops in New Jersey, Utah, and Atlanta.
Harris averaged 8.5 points and 1.9 assists in a deep point guard rotation that included rookie Dennis Smith Jr., Yogi Ferrell, and J.J. Barea.
McDermott, in the final year of his four-year rookie contract, will be a restricted free agent after the season. The Mavericks will be his fourth team.
The Suns acquired point guard Elfrid Payton from the Magic for a second-round pick this summer.
Payton, the 10th overall pick in the 2014 draft, is averaging a career-high 13.0 points per game this season, as well as 6.3 assists and 4.0 rebounds. The Magic owned Payton’s restricted free agent rights this summer and could have matched any offer he received.
To make room for Payton, the Suns waived injured guard Isaiah Canaan.
The Pistons acquired guard Jameer Nelson from the Bulls for center Willie Reed. Chicago also received the right to swap second-round draft picks with Detroit in 2022. Chicago immediately waived Reed. Nelson, who turns 36 on Friday, averaged 5.1 points a game with New Orleans this season before being traded to Chicago last week. He hasn’t played since . . . A person with knowledge of the situation told the AP that the Trail Blazers traded forward Noah Vonleh, who is from Haverhill, to the Bulls in exchange for 32-year-old forward Milovan Rakovic. Vonleh, 22, will be a restricted free agent this summer. Rakovic currently plays in the Swiss Basketball League . . . The Pistons and Grizzlies agreed to a trade sending forward James Ennis to Detroit for forward Brice Johnson and a 2022 second-round draft pick . . . The Pelicans agreed to trade forward Dante Cunningham to the Nets for third-year guard Rashad Vaughn.
Hornets point guard Kemba Walker was named as the All-Star Game replacement for Porzingis on Team LeBron. This is Walker’s second straight trip to the All-Star Game and second overall. He entered Thursday averaging 22.6 points and 5.8 assists per game . . . Bulls point guard Kris Dunn is out of the NBA’s concussion protocol, though he will miss at least two more games. Chicago executive vice president of basketball operations John Paxson said Dunn ‘‘still has a long way to go conditioning-wise,’’ though he is ‘‘feeling normal.’’ The former Providence star has missed the past eight games and will not play against Minnesota or Washington on Friday and Saturday. He’s averaging 13.7 points and 6.4 assists this season . . . Warriors forward Draymond Green was fined $50,000 by the NBA for directing inappropriate and offensive language toward a game official. Green was ejected in the second quarter of the Warriors’ 125-105 home loss to Oklahoma City Tuesday night after a second technical when he argued with the officials . . . Mavericks guard Seth Curry had season-ending surgery for a stress fracture in his lower left leg and is expected to resume full activities within three months.
