It’s been an eventful beginning to summer league for the Celtics. Rookie first-round pick Robert Williams missed his flight to the first practice in Las Vegas, though his former Texas A&M teammate DJ Hogg claimed the mixup was caused by nothing more than a misplaced wallet and ID. And each interaction between restricted free agent guard Marcus Smart and president of basketball operations Danny Ainge is dissected with rigor.
Amid all the buzz, basketball is being played. And the Celtics have advanced to the second stage of summer league and will face the Knicks Thursday afternoon at 4:30 Eastern time. The game is part of what is now a single-elimination tournament that will commence Wednesday afternoon when the Clippers face the Wizards.

The Celtics went 2-1 in the preliminary portion of summer league and are coming off a 100-80 victory over Charlotte Monday night. Jabari Bird and Jarrod Uthoff each scored 16 points for the Green.
Seeding for the single-elimination tournament was determined by won-loss records in the preliminary round, with ties broken using quarter points followed by point differential. Teams that lose in the first round on Wednesday or Thursday will participate in consolation matchups Friday. The winners resume play Saturday and will compete through Tuesday, when a champion is crowned.
Should the Celtics beat the Knicks on Thursday they will face the winner of New Orleans and Miami on Saturday afternoon.
ESPN and NBA TV will show the remaining 37 games from Las Vegas, with ESPN, ESPN2, and ESPNU televising the championship rounds on Sunday through Tuesday.
