LAS VEGAS — The Celtics beat the Miami Heat, 74-72, on Saturday night to advance to the summer quarterfinals, but it was but was hardly easy.

The Celtics will play the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday at 8 p.m.

Boston actually led, 68-55, with 6:48 left but went scoreless for more than five minutes as the Heat cut the deficit to 2. Former Virginia Tech standout Justin Bibbs countered with a pair of buckets.

Pierria Henry had chances to clinch the game but missed three free throws in the final minute and Guerschon Yabusele missed the second of two to give Miami one final chance. Derrick Walton Jr.’s 3-pointer was short at the buzzer and Boston improved to 4-1.

Henry led Boston with 15 points on 6-for-11 shooting while Yabusele added 12 points along with 10 rebounds and Jarrod Uthoff added 11 points. The Celtics won despite shooting 39.2 percent, missing 17 of 21 3-pointers and 10 of 22 free throws.

Jabari Bird (rest) did not play while Robert Williams sat out his fourth consecutive game with a sore knee. It’s highly unlikely Williams, who played seven minutes in his first summer game before getting injured, will return to summer league action.
