Harvard women eliminated from NIT Tournament

NEW YORK — Bre Cavanaugh scored 26 points as the Fordham women’s basketball team eliminated visiting Harvard with a 65-47 victory on Friday night in the opening round of the NIT.

Mary Goulding had 13 points, G’mrice Davis and Lauren Holden added 12 apiece for the Rams (23-9), who advance to the round of 32. Taylor Rooks scored 18 points to lead the Crimson, who close their season at 18-11.

Katie Benzan, who averaged nearly 14 points per game for Harvard this season, was limited to 8 points on 3-for-7 shooting. Madeline Raster scored 9 points for the Crimson, who were making their eighth NIT appearance and sixth in the past seven years.

Both Harvard (Ivy League) and Fordham (Atlantic 10) qualified for the 64-team field through at-learge bids after falling short in their conference tournaments. The Crimson lost to Penn in the Ivy League tournament semifinals last week.
