Boston College is extending the contract of football coach Steve Addazio for two years, athletic director Martin Jarmond announced Tuesday.

The move keeps Addazio under contract through 2022.

“Having a chance to see our program behind the scenes, I’m confident in the progress we are making,” said Jarmond. “We are developing our student-athletes the right way on and off the field. I think even better days are ahead.”

The Eagles went 7-5 this season and accepted an invitation to play in the First Responder Bowl Dec. 26 in Dallas, where they will face Boise State.

Addazio has led the Eagles to five bowls in his first six years, the only head coach in BC history to do so. He has compiled a record of 38-38.

BC started the season 7-2 and climbed as high as No. 17 in the Associated Press Top 25 before dropping its final three games.
