2016 Girls’ Indoor Track All-Scholastics
Margie Cullen, Needham, senior
Cullen dominated the mile and 2-mile events. She captured the All-State and Division 2 championships in both and won the State Coaches Invitational in the mile. Cullen will attend Georgetown University.
Skylar Barthelmes, Dartmouth, senior
Barthelmes finished first in the shot put in the All-State (42-2) and the Division 3 (42-2½) meets. She was also second at the State Coaches Elite Invitational (40-8.5). She will attend Elon and compete in track.
Brianna Duncan, Cambridge, senior
Duncan won the All-State championship in the 300-meter dash and long jump. She placed first in the 55-meter dash and 300-meter dash in the Division 1 state meet. She became the third girl in state history to jump over 20 feet.
Kristin Hohenstein, Chelmsford, junior
Hohenstein was the MSTCA pentathlon champion. She set the school record in the 600-meter dash (1:37.43) and was MVC champion in the same event. At the Division 1 state meet, she was fourth in the 55-meter hurdles.
Ariel Keklak, Lincoln-Sudbury, senior
Keklak won the Division 1 title in the 1000-meter dash and was a part of the winning 4 x 800 meter relay team. She also won the same events (1000-meter, 4 x 800 relay) at All-States. Keklak will attend Wake Forest.
Ashley Lewis, Latin Academy, senior
Lewis finished her career as All-State champion in the 600 meters (1:33). She was the New England champion in the 600 (1:33.86) and New England outdoor champion in the 400. She will attend George Mason.
Madelyn Sessler, Plymouth South, junior
Sessler swept the 55-meter hurdles titles, winning the All-State , Division 2 meet, and the State Coaches Invitational. She was Patriot League Most Valuable Runner and her 8.33 time at New Englands was the fastest in the state.
Samantha Thompson, Weston, senior
Thompson won the Division 4 state title in the high jump (5-4) and finished tied for second at All-States (5-4). The two-time Dual County League All-Star and team captain also tied for second at the New Englands with a 5-5.
Brooke-Lynn Williams, Norton, junior
First in the 55 dash at the State Coaches Invitational, the Div. 4 meet and All-States, Williams had the fastest time in the state (6.87 at New Englands). She earned All-American status after a fifth-place finish at New Balance Nationals.
4 x 200: Jessica Foley, Jayme Banks, Alexandra Cox, and Melissa Solomon, Lexington
The squad of (from the left) Jessica Foley, Jayme Banks, Alexandra Cox, and Melissa Solomon captured the All-State championship in 1:45.23. The quartet finished in second at the New England championships in a school-record 1:44.79. Cox and Solomon are seniors and honor-roll students. Foley is also senior and will attend Connecticut College. Banks is a junior and also swims for Lexington.
4 x 400: Alexandra Cox, Leah Smith, Jessica Foley, and Melissa Solomon, Lexington
The foursome of (from the left) Alexandra Cox, Leah Smith, Jessica Foley, and Melissa Solomon won the Division 1 championship (4:00.17) and All-State title (3:58.84). The team also placed second at the State Coaches Invitational and helped lead the Minutemen to the Middlesex League meet title. Cox, Foley, and Solomon are all seniors. Smith is a sophomore and also plays varsity soccer.
4 x 800: Marie Nevils, Meghan Garrett, Nicole Kerrigan, and Ariel Keklak, Lincoln-Sudbury
The team of (from the left) Marie Nevils, Meghan Garrett, Nicole Kerrigan, and Ariel Keklak ran their way into history, winning the Division 1 state championship in 9:31.63, nearly six seconds faster than the second-place team. They also won the All-State title in 9:26.40. Keklak was also the All-State champion in the 1,000. Kerrigan is a senior headed for Tufts. Nevils is a junior and plays varsity soccer. Garrett is a freshman.
Coaches of the Year
Division 1: Henry Phelan, Lincoln-Sudbury
Phelan’s squad finished 5-0 and won the Dual County League title. The Warriors also won the All-State crown and were second at the Division 1 meet. A 17-year veteran, Phelan owns a 105-15 career record.
Division 2: Chris Van Cott, Needham
In his 10th season, Van Cott brought home his first Division 2 state championship. He led the Rockets to a 4-2 regular season in the Bay State Conference and broke five school records along the way.
Division 3: Cliff Buckley, Plymouth North
Buckley led his team to a 5-0 record, a Patriot League championship, and a Division 3 state championship. ‘‘This year’s team was one of the most talented, overall teams I have ever had,’’ Buckley said. ‘‘They were relentless.’’
Division 4: Brian Schell, Wilmington
The second-year coach led the Wildcats to their first Middlesex League championship, while finishing 5-0. His team set numerous school records this season in the 600-meter dash, 1000-meter, mile, and 4 x 800 meter relay.
Division 5: Marty Binette, Ipswich
Binette led the Tigers to a perfect 10-0 regular season, lifting his overall regular-season record to 30-0. He was the Cape Ann League Coach of the Year for the third straight season. Ipswich was seventh at the Division 5 meet.

Marshfield: Isabela Cunio, Alyssa Doust, Kiki Horgan, Maddie Lawlor, Marina MacKinnon, Meghan Maher, Kayla O’Connell, Katie Olson. Nauset: Tara Ellard, Makenzie Meads, Madaket Nobili, Neilly Rose.
