Player of the Year
Max Schuermann, Dover-Sherborn, junior
Schuermann posted a 20-1 record at No. 1 singles to lead his team to the state semifinals. In individual singles play, the two-time TVL MVP claimed the North title, and reached the state final before losing a tough three-set match.
Connor Aulson, Pentucket, senior
Aulson dropped just one match in the regular season for Pentucket, leading the Sachems to the Divison 3 North final. The Cape Ann Player of the Year also reached the North individual final for singles. Aulson will play at Bentley.
Noah Criss, Winchester, junior
Criss, a captain, led the Sachems (14-2) to the Division 2 North semifinals, going undefeated in the regular season at No. 1 singles. A semifinalist in the North individual tournament, Criss ended his third season at 18-2.
Max Francis, Barnstable, senior
Francis reached the South individual semifinals for singles, after finishing his career undefeated in team playoff matches (18-0). He holds the record for the most career wins at his school (106). He plans to play at Assumption.
Andrew Imrie, Andover, senior
Imrie played first singles for the Golden Warriors, finishing with a 13-1 record. The Merrimack Valley Conference Player of the Year was also a North individual tournament semifinalist. Imrie will play tennis for RPI next fall.
Alex Kley, Wellesley, senior
The four-year veteran went 20-4 at first singles and second singles for the D1 South champion Raiders, on top of reaching the sectional final in the individual tournament. Kley will continue his tennis career at Colorado College.
Camden Mazzoni, Dennis-Yarmouth, senior
The Dolphins captain posted a 24-1 record, winning the South individual title in singles. The two-time All-Scholastic reached the state semifinals, finishing his career at 45-4. Mazzoni plans to play Division 1 tennis at Davidson.
Alex Novins, Wellesley, junior
A two-time All-Scholastic, Novins went 21-3 playing out of No. 1 spot the majority of the season for the D1 South champion Raiders. The Bay State League MVP reached the South sectional semifinals in individual play for a second straight season.
Charlie Sharton, Wayland, senior
Sharton finished his third straight spring undefeated in regular season play. This season, playing No. 1 singles, he led the Warriors to the Division 2 state title. The senior plans to join his brother and play tennis at Georgetown.
Leon Fridrikh, Acton-Boxborough, senior
Fridrikh paired with Alex Pieri to win the individual doubles state title. The senior duo played at first doubles for the Colonials (16-3), and helped them win the Division 1 state championship. Fridrikh will attend Miami of Ohio.
Patrick Kley, Wellesley, junior
Kley paired with Michael Ryan at first doubles for the Raiders and led the team to a 20-3 record. Kley and Ryan won the South individual title and then duplicated the feat by leading D-S to the South team title.
Jesse Lamba, Brookline, senior
Lamba paired with freshman Ben Moolman at first doubles to lead the Warriors to a South sectional semifinal appearance. The senior wrapped up his career with a match record of 70-11. He plans to attend Boston University.
Ben Moolman, Brookline, freshman
The Bay State All-Star paired with senior Jesse Lamba to reach the South sectional final in the individual tournament. The duo went 14-2 on the season. The Warriors named Moolman co-MVP after his breakout performance this spring.
Alex Pieri, Acton-Boxborough, senior
Pieri and senior classmate Leon Fridrikh paired up to win the state title in individual doubles after helping the Colonials win their first state championship. The Dual County League All-Star plans to attend the University of Illinois.
Michael Ryan, Wellesley, junior
Ryan and teammate Patrick Kley won the South sectional title in the individual tournament, and the first doubles pair helped the Raiders capture the Division 1 South title with a win over Newton North.
Will Tarini, Lincoln-Sudbury, senior
Tarini partnered with Andrew Vroman at first doubles to post a 16-2 record this season, reaching the North final in the individual tournament. He also led the Warriors to the North Division 1 final. He will attend Boston College.
Andrew Vroman, Lincoln-Sudbury, senior
Vroman and partner Will Tarini finished their season as Dual County League All-Stars, and the first doubles pair reached both the North individual and North team finals as L-S finished 16-2. Vroman will attend Holy Cross.
Coaches of the Year
Division 1: Kevin Curley, Acton-Boxborough
In his 13th year as A-B’s coach, Curley went 16-3 to capture the Colonials first Division 1 state title. With three North sectional titles under his belt, the UMass-Amherst graduate’s career record stands at 230 wins and 25 losses.
Division 2: Shawn Powers, Wayland
In 27 years of coaching, Powers has recorded 387 wins and 113 losses. He went 18-2 this season en route to capturing the Division 2 state title. Of his team, he said: ‘‘They worked hard and had a great deal of fun doing it.’’
Division 3: George Conlin, Weston
Coach of the Wildcats since 2009, Conlin had won three state titles (2010, 2011, 2014) entering the season. After losing in the Division 3 state semis last year, his team came back to win the 2017 state title, finishing at 16-5.
