Players of the Year
Division 1: Taylor Pinzone, Waltham
Pinzone outdid herself in her farewell season with the Hawks. She broke her own single-season goals record set last year, netting 149 to give her an incredible 520 for her career. A three-time All-Scholastic, she will play at Northwestern.
Division 2: Elle Hansen, Cohasset
A two-time All-Scholastic, Hansen scored 80 goals and corralled an absurd 161 draw controls for the state champion Skippers. Like her sister Jane, she’s verbally commited to Northwestern . . . but not before they defend their state title.
Madison Ahern, Notre Dame (Hingham), sophomore
This 2017 All-American from Cohasset scored 104 goals, tallied 63 assists, and 66 ground balls for a team that finished 17-6 and lost in the South final. She already has 277 career points. She has verbally committed to Notre Dame.
Caitlin Chicoski, Wellesley, junior
The All-American has captivated scouts since her school debut, with 61 goals, 23 assists, 73 draw controls, 39 ground balls, and 17 forced turnovers the most recent additions to her resume. She has verbally commited to Stanford.
Sarah Conley, Needham, senior
Conley paced a talented Needham offense with 79 goals, and provided a voice of leadership for the Division 1 state champions. She’ll continue playing lacrosse at Richmond, while balancing her studies in the nursing program.
Haley Connaughton, Westwood, senior
With 90 goals, 50 assists, and 69 draw controls, she was named the Tri-Valley League MVP and the Wolverines finished 18-5. The repeat All-Scholastic and National Honor Society member will play at UMass Amherst.
Grace Connerty, Norwell, senior
The Skidmore-bound senior earned rave reviews for her defense under coach and aunt Kara Connerty. The repeat All-Scholastic and South Shore MVP led a team that allowed the second fewest goals per game in Division 2.
Sophia DiCenso, Foxborough, sophomore
Coach Brittany Sherry called the sophomore one of the hardest working players she’s ever had. DiCenso scored 58 goals with 24 assists and 47 ground balls. The Hockomock MVP has verbally committed to Richmond.
Julia Glavin, Ipswich, senior
The All-American heads to Bentley as Ipswich’s all-time leading scorer after another spendid season (88 goals, 61 assists, 115 draw controls). The Cape Ann MVP nearly went out on top, but Ipswich fell in the North final.
Jane Hansen, Cohasset, sophomore
Sophomore standout would be underselling this All-American, whose star often shone just as brightly as her sister Elle’s. With 94 goals, 50 assists, and an astounding 148 draw controls, she is a future Northwestern Wildcat.
Kendall Milligan, Needham, senior
Milligan capped off her career with a Division 1 state championship. She led the Rockets with 48 assists, but thrived in all facets of the game (38 goals, 64 draw controls) playing for Division 1’s best. She’ll play at Trinity.
Lucie Poulin, Marblehead, senior
The midfielder scored 29 goals and was named the Northeastern MVP for a third straight season. She finished her career with 104 goals and 100 assists. A three-sport senior captain, she will attend UMass Amherst.
Brianna Stokes, Lincoln-Sudbury, senior
Though L-S missed the playoffs, Stokes was one of the most exceptional talents in Division 1. She had 56 goals, 17 assists, and 56 draw controls, earning All-American and DCL All-Star honors. She’ll attend Gettysburg College.
Lily Tardif, Wayland, sophomore
Tardif helped the Warriors conquer the competition until their 16-2 season was cut short by Foxborough in the East semifinals. A sophomore, the Georgetown-commit and DCL All-Star had 86 goals and 15 assists.
Jordan Torres, Andover, junior
The Division 1 North champions were led by their impressive junior midfielder, who finished with 82 goals and 14 assists. With a year to go, she has 146 career goals. The Merrimack Valley MVP also plays field hockey.
Payton Vaughn, Concord-Carlisle, junior
A co-captain who has verbally committed to Yale, the midfielder (40 goals, 21 assists) helped propel the Patriots to the D1 East final. She and sister Fallon, a freshman, were All-American and All-Eastern Mass. selections.
Annie Walsh, Franklin, sophomore
The fleet-footed Walsh fueled Franklin at both ends of the field this season, leading the Panthers to the Division 1 East title. Walsh had 91 draws, scored 79 goals, scooped up 53 ground balls and caused 52 turnovers.
Melanie Weber, Walpole, senior
Not only a dominant lacrosse player, Weber accomplished the rare feat of earning 12 varsity letters at Walpole. She won the Globe’s Player of the Year award in field hockey, which she will continue playing at Northeastern.
Coaches of the Year
Division 1: Beth O’Brien, Needham
After 14 years at Needham, it’s a bit of a shock this is O’Brien’s first state title. A mainstay at the Mass Elite lacrosse program, O’Brien led the Rockets to a 23-3 season and the first Needham girls’ lacrosse title since 2002.
Division 2: Kully Reardon, Cohasset
Alongside the dynamic and All-Scholastic Hansen sisters, Reardon and Cohasset rolled through Division 2 on the way to a state title. The 16-year skipper said she’d never coached a team as talented as this 20-2 squad.
