2017 Girls’ Tennis All-Scholastics

Hingham’s Lexi Dewire is a Singles All-Scholastics selection.

Player of the Year

Mia Wallace, Arlington

Wallace had only one loss this season, in the final of the state individual singles tournament. She was the North state individual champion and was the New England clay court champion. She will play tennis at Elon University.

Singles All-Scholastics

Lexi Dewire, Hingham, freshman

After an undefeated season, Dewire was a South individual finalist and led Hingham to the Division 2 state final where it fell to Wayland. She’s ranked ninth in New England in the US Tennis Association Girls 16U category.

Izzy Essi, Wayland, senior

Playing No. 1 singles, Essi led Wayland to a Division 2 team state title. She also was a North individual finalist and a four-time Dual County League All-Star. A member of the National Honor Society, she’ll play tennis at Bowdoin.

Leanne Kendall, Apponequet, junior


Kendall won the South individual title after being seventh seed in the tournament. She went undefeated (20-0) in the regular season and tournament. She’s a National Honor Society member and a top goal scorer on the soccer team.

Rachel Leighton, Newton North, senior

Leighton, a three-time Bay State All-Star and Bay State League Co-MVP this season, played No. 1 singles for Newton North and was a semifinalist in the South sectional individual tournament. She will play tennis at MIT next year.

Emily Parkerson, Boston Latin, 8th grade

Parkerson had an 18-2 Dual County League record and was a North individual semifinalist. She represented the US in the CAN-AM challenge and is ranked No. 1 in singles and doubles in USTA New England U12-girls.

Katharine Roberts, Martha’s Vineyard, junior

Roberts led Martha’s Vineyard to its third straight Division 3 team title as the first singles player. She went 20-1 on the season and was a semifinalist in the South individual tournament. She is president of the National Honor Society.

Nupur Shukla, Sharon, sophomore

Shukla went 22-3 this season in the Hockomock League, playing at No. 1 singles. The sophomore helped lead the Eagles to the Division 1 state team championship and an undefeated record (26-0). She plays at the Weymouth Club.

Julia Thompson, Winchester, junior


After two knee surgeries, Thompson came back as the No. 1 singles player for the Sachems and finished as a North individual semifinalist. She’s ranked 26th in New England and will continue playing USTA tournaments this summer.

Doubles All-Scholastics

Amanda Armstrong, Wayland, sophomore

Armstrong finished her first season with Wayland undefeated at doubles with Nora Ouertani. The two were North individual finalists and then helped lead Wayland to the Division 2 team title. She plays at Longfellow Tennis.

Izzy Bruno, Winchester, senior

Bruno competed in doubles with Brooke Scully and won the North doubles championship. She went undefeated in her high school career and will play tennis at Trinity. Bruno is a three-sport athlete, also playing volleyball and track.

Katie Merport, Sharon, junior

Merport and her partner, Emily Wen, helped Sharon win its first team state title. The duo also were South doubles finalists in the individual tournament. She went 16-3 and also enjoys traveling, scuba diving, and playing the piano.

Nora Ouertani, Wayland, junior

In her first year at Wayland, Ouertani went undefeated with Amanda Armstrong in the regular season and team tournament, and Wayland won the Division 2 title. The pair fell to Winchester in the North individual doubles final.

Victoria Scott, Martha’s Vineyard, sophomore


After two undefeated seasons, Scott finished the year an individual state doubles champion with Elizabeth Williamson. The two helped Martha’s Vineyard win a Division 3 team state champion for a third straight year.

Brooke Scully, Winchester, junior

Scully won the North doubles championship with her partner, Izzy Bruno. The duo went undefeated during the regular season and were Middlesex All-Stars. Scully is a National Honor Society member and volleyball captain.

Emily Wen, Sharon, junior

Wen went 19-3 and was a South doubles sectional finalist with her partner, Katie Merport. The two helped Sharon win its first team state championship in Division 1. She earned the George Eastman Young Leadership Award.

Elizabeth Williamson, Martha’s Vineyard, junior

She finished the season undefeated, winning the Division 3 team state title and a state individual doubles championship with Victoria Scott. The junior competes in golf, sailing, dance, and windsurfing and also plays the saxophone.

Coaches of the Year

Division 1: Diane Micheroni, Sharon

Micheroni led the Sharon girls to their first team state championship in program history, finishing the year 26-0. This was the second straight year the team won the Hockomock League title in her nine years as head coach.

Division 2: Linda Partridge, Hingham

Partridge has been coaching her alma mater the past nine seasons, leading the team to a 24-1 record before falling to Wayland in the Division 2 final. Her philosophy is to allow every girl to play and grow throughout each season.

Division 3: Nina Bramhall, Martha’s Vineyard

After three years at Martha’s Vineyard, Bramhall has a 64-1 record with three straight Division 3 state titles. This season, the team went 21-1 and the Milton Academy grad says it’s due to the dedication of the individual players.
