Senior Alexandra Frontino went 2 for 3 with three RBIs Kelly Nelson pitched a one-hitter as the Norton softball team (20-1) gutted out a 4-0 victory over Medfield in its Division 2 South tournament opener.
“I think winning the first playoff game is always the hardest,” said Norton coach Wade Lizotte. “I thought the playoff atmosphere really got to them today. We have a lot of work to do.”
Nelson allowed just one hit, a bunt single in the first. She finished the complete-game effort in just 76 pitches, 64 for strikes, and had 15 strikeouts.
The Lancers did most of their damage in the fifth inning, capitalizing on four Medfield errors to score three runs.
