Myles Davis comes through for Roxbury Latin

Senior point guard Myles Davis sank five free throws down the stretch, including the go-ahead make with 1:15 left to lift the visiting Roxbury Latin boys’ basketball team past Governor’s Academy, 48-43, in an Independent School League game on Friday night. Davis and senior forward Will Greer each scored 12 points and junior center Charlie Weitel led the Foxes (1-1) with 13 points. Roxbury Latin coach Sean Spellman earned his first career win.

‘‘It was a big win because we dropped a tough game Wednesday,’’ Spellman said. ‘‘To come back gave the boys confidence. We rounded into form in the second half and took control.’’


Bishop Fenwick 83, Rockport 77 — Freshman guard Jason Romans racked up 19 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists in the season opener.

BB&N 45, Middlesex 43 — Sophomore guard Ryan Stewart netted the go-ahead basket with three seconds left for the Knights (3-1).

Mystic Valley 61, Lynn Tech 39 — Junior guard Alfie Tsang recorded 18 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists for the host Eagles (1-0).

O'Bryant 79, Cathedral 58 — Senior captain Rivaldo Soares (22 points, 15 rebounds, 5 assists, 5 blocks) stuffed the stat sheet as the Tigers took down the visiting Panthers in their season opener. Sophomore guard Manny Mendes contributed 14 points and 7 assists and senior Tim Lambright had 12 points.

Stoughton 66, Archbishop Williams 62 — Zak Paquette led the Black Knights to the season-opening victory with 16 points.

Girls’ basketball

Mansfield 40, East Bridgewater 31 — Senior captain Maggie Danehy recorded 16 points and 9 rebounds for the host Hornets (1-0).

Mystic Valley 71, Lynn Tech 21 — Sophomore Kate Story and freshman Maread St. Clair each scored 12 points for the visiting Eagles (1-0).

North Quincy 51, Charlestown 28 — Senior forward Mary Kate McAleavey led the Red Raiders with 21 points.


Northeast 48, Whittier 25 — Junior center Kayla McLaughlin had 16 points and 12 rebounds to boost the Golden Knights.

Rockland 36, Hanover 33 — Junior Caroline Elie had 16 points and 12 rebounds for the visiting Bulldogs (1-0).

Boys’ hockey

Middlesex 5, Berwick 2 — Senior Justin Krayer had two goals and an assist for the Zebras (2-2).
