FRANKLIN — Half-day deliberations aside, Norwell girls’ lacrosse coach Kara Connerty is going to miss the coaches’ poll next year when the MIAA transitions to a MaxPreps formula to determine tournament seeding.

This year, Connerty’s Clippers (15-5) — which weathered a schedule loaded with Notre Dame of Hingham Wellesley, Needham, and the top team from Georgia — earned the No. 2 seed in the Division 2 South bracket behind Martha’s Vineyard (17-1).

“I think it’s nice when coaches have an input,” she said. “Because as coaches, you know the teams that should be rewarded for going out and getting those top games.”

With rival Cohasset clinching the No. 3 seed, Norwell is on course to face one of its toughest challenges sooner than expected in the section’s semifinals. The winner of the D2 South has taken home the state championship each of the past four years (Norwell three times, Duxbury once).

Despite the uncertainty surrounding the changing seeding system, Connerty has no plans to adjust her future scheduling.

“As a coach, I’ve always thought going to get very strong, competitive teams is a priority,” she said. “Because no matter what your seed is, if you’re better prepared in tournament, then hopefully that’ll be the reason why you succeed.”

In the D1 South, Westwood (17-1) edged NDA (17-3) for the top spot after outlasting the Cougars in overtime this season.

Walpole (17-1), Franklin (18-2), and Concord-Carlisle (15-4) are the top three seeds, respectively, in the Division 1 East for the second season in a row.

Ipswich (13-3) unseated third-seeded Newburyport (12-4) for the No. 1 seed in the Division 2 North following its Cape Ann League championship last week.

Reading and Chelmsford captured the top two seeds in the Division 1 North while Wayland (16-4) and Dover-Sherborn (14-4) finished atop the Division 2 East.
